The Reverend Tryggvi G. Árnason

The Reverend Tryggvi (pronounced “Trig-vee”) G. Árnason began his position as Church of the Advent’s part-time Priest-in-Charge on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

Father Árnason is the oldest of four brothers, all born and raised in Reykjavik, Iceland.

He came to Advent from North Carolina, where he served 13 years as Rector of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Hickory, NC and 11 years as Chaplain and Priest Associate at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church in Atlanta.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of West Florida in Pensacola and a Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.  While at Emory, Father Árnason completed a residency in hospital chaplaincy at Crawford Long Hospital, Emory University Hospital, Egleston Children’s Hospital and Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital.  Father Árnason became a priest in 2006 while at Holy Innocents’.

Father Árnason has served on the Global Mission Commission and Task Force on Child Sex Trafficking in the Diocese of Atlanta and in North Carolina was Dean of the Foothills Deanery and served on the Commission on Ministry.

Father Tryggvi co-parents his two children Eyja Lee Tryggvadóttir and Árni Greer Tryggvason (twins) with Lee Ann Greer Árnason of Hayston, Georgia. In his spare time he plays golf, enjoys photography, paddle boarding, and bicycling. Above all, he loves spending time with his family.

I am passionate about creating worship that is accessible and inviting to all of God’s children, allowing the full body of Christ to participate and find belonging. I have always valued inclusion as a vital expression of our common life and found joy in helping people of different ages and orientations to connect with God, one another, and the world.”
